Substance were commissioned by Laureus, Sport for Good Foundation , to undertake a research project investigating the great potential that sport had to impact on problems of youth engagement and gang violence.
Lead by Professor Tim Crabbe, the research sought to understand how sports interventions should be designed to have the most impact, and reviewed exisiting experience on this subject and surveyed disadvantaged young people in Manchester, Liverpool, Coventry, Glasgow and London.
Olympic legend Daley Thompson delivered the ground-breaking report to Prime Minister Gordon Brown, having completed a 367 -mile cycle ride. Daly was joined by a whole host of professional sports people and celebrities who visited grass-roots sports development projects up and down the country.
